Entry 189
Self esteem refers to a positive subjective view of self worth. Narcissism, on the other hand, holds feelings o f superiority and self-entitlement.
Self esteem and Narcissism do possess certain common elements. One is positive self-perceptions. That’s pretty much where it ends though as Narcissists do not have high self esteem.
Narcissism can be a result of trauma obtained through abuse especially emotional and mental abuse. Even from parents who base their acceptance on unrealistic outcomes rather than who the child is.
Narcissists may experience hyperarousal when exposed to different forms of social judgement. This could also happen with those who possess high self-esteem. The difference though is the narcissist won’t have the tools to cope.
