Self compassion simply means being kind to yourself. The components include self-kindness, common humanity and mindfulness.

Rather than tying this to trauma survivors though who know they have difficulties with this, which roots itself in self-love as a result of trauma - I’m directing this at those who interact with trauma survivors. Compassion is necessary for all of humanity to survive.

As those on the outside of others’ trauma you need to recognize their suffering and feel moved by it. That doesn’t mean that you feel sorry for them. It means that you don’t judge them…you don’t criticize them. You just need to be present for them. Listen. Really listen.

To accomplish this you must first practice self compassion for you. Accept your humanness.
